Lillian Syrah 2013

$155.00

Tasting Note:
Youthful violet. Highly perfumed aromas of black and blue fruits, Indian spices, pungent flowers and incense, along with a smoky nuance that builds in the glass. Palate-staining black raspberry and boysenberry flavors show impressive depth as well as energy. An exotic floral pastille nuance comes up on the strikingly long, smooth, gently tannic finish, which displays a lingering suggestion of sweet dark berry liqueur. This wine’s combination of richness and elegance is pretty compelling. Josh Raynolds, Vinous, Nov 2017.

Description

Lillian Official Website

Certain gifts are given to the winemaker in California: the fruit will always ripen, it will never suffer from a lack of depth of character, of power. It is not our nature to lean away from these gifts or try to deny them by picking excessively early or by overcropping the vineyard. We choose instead to lean in, to meet the fruit where it is.

The goal with all Lillian wines — roussanne, syrah, grenache and cabernet sauvignon — is to work with these historical, noble varieties in a sun-drenched place but raise the wines in such a way that gives the wines levity and lift; a certain transparency and fineness of detail.
